
Crittenden, Mouton Set Meet Records at Kirk Baptiste Spring Invitational

Cougars earn seven first-place finishes, set two meet records at outdoor season opener
HOUSTON – Freshmen Aaron Crittenden and Michaela Mouton set two meet records while six other Cougars registered first-place finishes at the Kirk Baptiste Spring Break Invitational from the Tom Tellez Track at the Carl Lewis International Complex on Thursday.
Crittenden recorded the first meet record of the day with a mark of 1:50.36 to win the men's 800 meters. Mouton added another meet record in the women's 200 meters with her impressive first-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.20 for the meet record and the seventh-best time in program history.
FIELD EVENTS
The Cougars earned six first place finishes in the field events. Graduate Ethan Marshall picked up Houston's first gold of the day in the hammer throw with a personal best of 64.94m (2130-00) for the second-best time in school history. In the women's hammer throw, sophomore Zaeda Houff placed second with her throw of 54.51m (178-10) to place fifth in the school history.
Freshman Paris Kimble claimed her first outdoor collegiate title in the javelin throw with a 39.96m (131-01) for the seventh-best throw in school history.
Graduate Izac Canchola made his Houston debut by taking first in the men's javelin throw with a personal best of 70.08 (229-11). Canchola is now third in school history with this mark.
Freshman Antrea Mita and junior My'Kell Beck placed first and second, respectively, in the men's high jump as Mita won the event with a leap of 2.10m (6-10.75). Beck placed second with his jump of 2.00m (6-06.75).
Graduate Destiny Lawrence leaped to first place in the women's triple jump with her leap of 12.08m (39-07.75) and senior David Ajama took first on the men's side with a 15.60m (51-02.25). Snyder picked up his second podium of the day with a jump of 15.32m (50-03.25).
Houston earned third place in the men's and women's long jump as freshman Genesis Griffin leaped a 5.95m (19-06.25) while junior Kevin Snyder recorded a 7.56m (24-09.75) on the men's side.
The Cougars picked up two additional third place finishes in the discus with freshman Cassidy Ball's throw of 43.12m (141-05) and graduate Lusekelo Mwamukonda's 51.63m (169-04).
Kimble and Ball picked up their second podium finishes of the day in the women's shot put as Kimble recorded a throw of 13.53m (44-04.75) for second while Ball placed third with a throw of 12.14m (39-10.00).
TRACK EVENTS
Houston started the track events with a third-place finish in the 1500 meter by junior Eleni Kaiser at 4:47.74. Junior Erin Rivera also claimed third in the 800 meters with 2:22.35.
In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Paris Baker hurdled to second place at 1:05.15 while junior Dillon Leacock also placed second on the men's side at 52.48.
Junior Trey East III closed out the evening for the Cougars with a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.11.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will head across Scott Street to attend the TSU Relays on Saturday to compete in the 4x200-meter relay scheduled to begin after 1:35 p.m.
