Maelynn Kim leads Women’s Golf at Nexus Collegiate

Freshman fires 1-under 71 in Second Round at Albany Golf Club in Bahamas
NASSAU, Bahamas – University of Houston freshman Maelynn Kim fired a 1-under 71 to lead the Cougars and surge into a tie for 14th with a score of 148 following the Second Round of the Nexus Collegiate at Albany Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Starting off No. 10, Kim overcame a birdie on the par-5 11th hole and moved into red numbers with back-to-back birdies at Nos. 14-15 on the 6,544-yard, par-72 course.
Following a bogey at No. 18, the Katy, Texas, native made a birdie at No. 6 with eight pars on her second nine to finish under par.
As a team, the Cougars posted a score of 302 Tuesday and stood in eight with a 36-hole score of 600. Kentucky held the second-day lead at 579 with Iowa State (582), North Texas (586), Tulsa (587). Texas Tech (591, Illinois (594) and Mississippi State (596) rounding out the Top Seven.
Senior Nicole Abelar and junior Hyeonji Kang – playing as an individual – tied for 20th at 149 while sophomore Natalie Saint Germain was tied for 35th at 152. Freshman Ellen Yates was tied for 40th at 153 while sophomore Moa Svedenskiold was tied for 52nd at 157.
Illinois' Isabel Sy recorded a 69 in the Second Round and held the individual lead at 5-under 139. Kentucky's Laney Frye stood in second at 142 while Michigan's Monet Chun and North Texas' Ellie Roth were tied for third at 143.
The tournament concludes with the Final Round on Wednesday morning.
FINAL-ROUND PAIRINGS
Wednesday's Final Round begins at 7 a.m. (CST with Kim off No. 7) with Abelar (No. 8), Saint Germain (No. 9), Yates (No. 10) and Svedenskiold (No. 11) following.

Following the Nexus Collegiate, Houston returns home to play host to its own Chevron Collegiate on Feb. 26-27 at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
From there, the Cougars will tee off at The Show at Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas on March 4-5.
