Women’s Golf Moves Higher in Nexus Collegiate Final Round

Cougars shoot best round of tournament to tie for sixth; Freshman Maelynn Kim ties for 15th overall
NASSAU, Bahamas – Posting its best round of the tournament, the University of Houston Women's Golf program moved into a tie for sixth with a three-day score of 892 following the Final Round of the Nexus Collegiate at Albany Golf Club on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cougars tied with Tulsa and UTSA for the low round of the day with a Final-Round score of 292 and joined Texas Tech in a tie for sixth on the 6,544-yard, par-72 course.
Tulsa captured the team championship with a score of 879 to finish three shots ahead of Kentucky and Iowa State. North Texas (883) and Mississippi State (890) rounded out the Top Five leaders.
Freshman Maelynn Kim tied for 15th with a score of 222 to lead the Cougars. Sophomore Natalie Saint Germain fired the Cougars' low round with a 71 Wednesday, thanks to four birdies through her first 13 holes, and tied for 19th at 223.
Senior Nicole Abelar tied for 22nd at 225 with junior Hyeonji Kang – playing as an individual – tying for 25th at 225. Sophomore Moa Svedenskiold and freshman Ellen Yates tied for 36th at 229.
North Texas' Ellie Roth earned medalist honors with a score of 2-under 214 to finish one stroke in front of Avery Weed (Mississippi State), Monet Chun (Michigan), Laney Frye (Kentucky) and Isabel Sy (Illinois).
UP NEXT
Following the Nexus Collegiate, Houston returns home to play host to its own Chevron Collegiate on Feb. 26-27 at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
From there, the Cougars will tee off at The Show at Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas on March 4-5.
