Safety brings in second All-Conference First Team honor
HOUSTON — Houston junior defensive back A.J. Haulcy was named to the Associate Press (AP) All-Big 12 Conference First Team as a safety on Thursday.
The junior was second on the team in tackles (74), tied for Big 12 lead in interceptions (5), second in Big 12 in passes defended (13) and led team in tackles three times (at Oklahoma, at Cincinnati, at TCU), earning All-Big 12 First Team as a defensive back.
He was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after his seven tackle and two interception performance at TCU (Oct. 2). Haulcy was also named to the Pro Football Focus (PFF) Team of the Week following the TCU game.
The Houston native was one of eight Big 12 players with 2+ INTs in a game but the only player to do so on the road.
Haulcy's 85.8 coverage grade (PFF) ranked fourth among Big 12 safeties and his 80.0 defensive grade ranked fifth among Big 12 safeties.
