Men’s Golf Signs Three on National Signing Day

High school stars Jayk Alltic, Jakub Janda and Matt Pawly will compete as freshman in 2024-25
HOUSTON – High school stars Jayk Altic, Jakub Janda and Matt Pawly became the newest members of the University of Houston Men's Golf program after signing financial aid agreements, Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke announced Wednesday.
Each of the three will compete as a freshman beginning in the 2024-25 season and will have four years of eligibility.
ABOUT JAYK ALTIC
A native Houstonian, Altic enjoyed tremendous success as a junior golfer in a career which featured 12 championships with more than 60 Top 10 showings, including nearly 50 Top Five finishes, and 15 consecutive Top 10 finishes on The Prestige Tour.
"Jayk has big physical abilities with a tremendous amount of club head speed," Dismuke said. "We project him to be a big contributor for our program in the years ahead."
In his first amateur championship appearance, he finished fifth at the 2024 Houston City Amateur Championship.
In 2023, Altic – whose first name is pronounced Jake – captured the individual title at the STGPA Junior Tour Spring Championship, setting two course records.
Altic finished ninth at the 75th Future Masters and tied for 11th at AJGA UHY St. Louis Junior Championship. He also tied for fourth at the AJGA Stan Utley and Mid-America Youth Golf Foundation Junior Championship.
Altic was a member of the South Team for the Jacky Burke and for Team Texas at the 2023 Texas-Mexico Cup.
He also finished second at the 2023 Bay Forest Junior Championship, 2023 VCVB South Texas Showcase, 2023 SwingJuice Jingle Bell Rock and the 2024 Prestige Tour Premiere.
ABOUT JAKUB JANDA
A native of Czechia, Janda was a successful junior player at the international level before beginning his collegiate career, earning 13 Top 10 finishes.
"Jakub has a lot of international experience and played at all levels throughout Europe." Dismuke said. "He was trained by some of the best instructors in Europe, and we are excited to have him join our program in the fall."
Janda, whos name is pronounced Yah-kub Yahn-duh – tied for fifth at the Czech Open Tour 5 – Grand Finale in September
In 2023, Janda earned three Top Four finishes in European junior events and finished sixth at the 2023 SKGA Tour IV. That year, he also finished third at the SKGA Junior Tour IV, opening that tournament with a 68 and closing with a 67.
Janda finished sixth at the 2022 FirstTee Miami Doral Junior Classic Championship.
ABOUT MATT PAWLY
Pawly enjoyed an award-winning junior career before inking with the Cougars.
In 2024, he captured the San Antonio Amateur Championship, thanks to 68s in the First and Final Rounds, and tied for third at the Texas Junior Amateur Championship with a 54-hole score of 213.
"Matt has been a staple in Texas Golf and exceled at the amateur and junior levels," Dismuke said. "We look forward to Matt's development and growth in our program in the years ahead."
The San Antonio, Texas, native finished second at the San Antonio Junior Championship after opening that tournament with a 66 and finished fifth at the AJGA CT Pan Foundation Junior Championships with a score of 212.
In 2023, Pawly won the AJGA Patrick Reed Junior Championship, lowering his score with each round, including a 69 during the final 18 holes, and finished third at the Southern Texas Junior PGA Championship.
UP NEXT
Houston will take its holiday break before opening the spring season at the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas, on Feb. 17-18, 2025.
The Cougars then compete at the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico on March 2-4, 2025, before returning home to play host to their All-American Intercollegiate at Golf Club of Houston on March 17-18, 2025.
