Houston set to close regular season against five Big 12 opponents
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The University of Houston Cross Country team is set to close out the regular season on Friday at the Arturo Barrios Invitational at the Watts Cross Country Course. The men's 8k race starts at 8:30 a.m., and the women's 6k race will follow at 9:15 a.m.
Friday's meet will serve as preparation for the Big 12 Championships as the Cougars face five conference foes including Arizona State, Baylor, Colorado (women only), TCU and Texas Tech.
Other Division I opponents include: Abilene Christian, Arkansas State, Boise State, Central Arkansas, Charleston Southern, Delaware (Women), Eastern Michigan, Georgia Tech, Gonzaga (Women), Houston Christian, Incarnate Word, Lamar, Louisiana, Louisville, Marshall, McNeese, Mercer, Middle Tennessee State, New Mexico State, New Orleans, Nicholls, North Dakota, North Texas, Oklahoma, Rice, Sam Houston, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, Tarleton State, Texas A&M (host), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas State, UT-Arlington, UTSA and Youngstown State.

LAST TIME OUT
Last month in College Station, fifth-year Branch Cox led the men's squad to a third-place team finish and freshman Cadence Patterson led the women's squad to seventh at the Texas A&M Invitational (Sept. 13).
Cox recorded a personal best time in the 8k as he crossed the finish line in fourth place at 23:41.7. Junior Miles Cox finished in 12th place where he also ran a personal best time of 23:53.2.
Three more personal bests were set by sophomore Aaron Crittenden (20th, 24:07.8), junior Benym Fantue (33rd, 24:34.6) and sophomore Patrick Flowers (49th, 24:55.2). Freshman Caden Thurman (30th, 24:31.6) scored at his second meet this season and freshman Zade Kayyali (63rd, 25:16.0) contributed to Houston's point total for the first time in his career.
In the women's 5k, Patterson was the top women's finisher for Houston as she crossed the finish line at 17:56.0. Other scoring Cougars were freshman Lily Campos (47th, 18:42.7), freshman AnnClaire Cop (51st, 18:47.9), freshman Julia Shimel (57th, 18:50.1), senior Erin Rivera (58th, 18:50.2), freshman Emily Pharris (69th, 19:06.5) and freshman Grace MacDonald (78th, 19:14.1).
Sophomore Carly Ahrens scored a personal best on the women's side at 19:48.9.
