
#20 Volleyball Falls to #19 Kansas

Cougars drop last match of nine-game road swing
LAWRENCE, Kan. – The #20 University of Houston Volleyball team closed its nine-match road stretch with a three-set loss to #19 Kansas on Saturday at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.
Graduate Kenna Sauer paced the Cougars, posting a double-double with a team-best 14 kills and 11 digs. Senior Kate Georgiades tallied a team-leading 17 digs, while graduates Rachel Tullos and Abbie Jackson tied with a match-best four blocks.
SET ONE
Houston (7-4, 0-3 Big 12) jumped out to a quick 6-1 edge in the first set, forcing a quick Kansas (12-2, 3-1 Big 12) timeout. The Cougars continued to hold the advantage until a 4-0 run gave the Jayhawks a 21-20 lead late. Houston would even the score at 21-all, but Kansas seized the momentum to win the frame, 25-22.
SET TWO
The Cougars again seized an early lead at 9-5 and kept the Jayhawks at a distance, still holding a four-point edge at 15-11. Kansas started its recovery from there, mounting a 6-2 run to take a 20-19 lead. The Jayhawks' lead never faltered for the remainder, putting Kansas up 2-0 with a 25-21 set win.
SET THREE
After splitting the first 12 points, Kansas used a 6-0 run to take a 12-6 advantage. While Houston prevented the deficit from growing any further, the Jayhawks continued to roll, clinching the straight-set win, 25-21.
UP NEXT
Houston returns home for its first match in the Fertitta Center in 40 days as they host West Virginia in the Cougars' Big 12 Conference home opener at 7 p.m. Oct. 6.
