
#13 Volleyball Keeps Rolling with Win Against North Texas

Cougars remain unbeaten with a 3-1 victory against Mean Green in road opener
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The No. 13 University of Houston Volleyball team powered to a four-set win against North Texas in its first match away from the Fertitta Center this season inside Strahan Arena on Friday evening from the campus of Texas State.

Houston (4-0) posted its third four-set win of the year, closing out the match on a 20-4 run to clinch the fourth frame against North Texas (3-3). The Cougars tallied 10 blocks, with junior Kellen Morin continuing to dominate on the net with six stops. The middle-blocker has led Houston in blocks in every match this season.Â
Graduate Abbie Jackson posted a double-double with 21 kills and 12 digs, while senior Kate Georgiades led the team with 14 digs. Graduate Morgan Janda tallied 30 assists for Houston, leading the match, while graduate Rachel Tullos posted three assists for the team lead.Â

SET ONE
The Cougars started off strong against the Mean Green. Houston jumped out to a 7-3 lead and never looked back as it hit .316 in the frame behind six kills from Jackson and nine assists from Janda. Houston posted multiple short runs, clinching a 25-20 win.

SET TWO
Houston kept the momentum into the second. The Cougars took a 10-7 edge early in the frame, but the Mean Green battled back to even the score at 18-18. Houston reclaimed a two-point lead at 20-18 and kept North Texas at an arm's length for the remainder of the set for a 25-22 win.

Jackson tallied another six kills in the second, hitting .556 in the frame, and posting a perfect 12-for-12 mark on service receptions. Tullos posted two service aces and graduate Kenna Sauer and Janda each notched three assists.

SET THREE
UNT came out of the extended set break hot, taking a 7-4 lead. The Cougars fought back, tying the score at 10-10, then taking the lead, but North Texas surged to retie the score at 22-22 and won the remaining three points to take the frame 25-22.Â

SET FOUR
North Texas seemed to capitalize on the momentum of the set win in the fourth. The Mean Green won the first four points and extended their lead to nine at 14-5, but then the Cougars broke free. Houston combined a 7-0, two 4-0s, and a 3-0 run along with another point for a 20-4 stretch that clinched the frame, and the match, for Houston, 25-18.

Jackson tallied four kills while both Sauer and graduate Nena Mbonu each posted three. Janda and senior Annie Cooke each recorded six assists while Houston combined for three blocks in the frame.Â

The Cougars remain in San Marcos for their first true road match of the season as they battle host Texas State at 3 p.m. Saturday. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.Â
