No. 13 Volleyball Earns Highest Ranking in Team History

Cougars rise six spots from AVCA/Taraflex preseason poll
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Volleyball team landed its highest ranking in program history in the AVCA Coaches' Poll at No. 13, the organization announced Monday.

Houston rose six spots from the preseason poll after taking down then-No. 22 USC, 3-1, on the season's opening night. The Cougars went on to top both Southern Miss, 3-1, and McNeese, 3-0, to close out the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup.

Houston was the third highest riser in the week one poll by moving from No. 19 to No. 13, behind Georgia Tech (nine spots) and BYU (eight spots). The Cougars are also the third highest team in the Big 12 Conference and one of five in the league in the poll, joining No. 7 Texas, No. 9 BYU, No. 16 Baylor and No. 23 Kansas.Â

The previous best ranking in team history was No. 17, which the team attained three times (Nov. 8, 1994, the 1994 final poll, and the 2022 final poll).Â
UP NEXT
The Cougars start a nine-match road stretch that lasts over a month with a two-match tourney at Texas State. Houston starts the weekend on Sept. 1 with a 4 p.m. match against North Texas, then wraps up the weekend with a 3 p.m. Sept. 2 match against host Texas State.Â
