Cougars double season ticket totals in inaugural Big 12 Conference season
HOUSTON – University of Houston Volleyball has set a new season ticket record, surpassing 200 season tickets for the Cougars' inaugural Big 12 Conference season.
Â
The 234 season tickets mark a 100 percent increase from the 2022 total as the team nears its season opener. The aggregate includes both fan paid tickets and any agreement tickets distributed. The mark also includes an over 200 percent increase in fan paid tickets from last season, its previous best.
Â
The record is Houston's second season ticket record of the year, with Football setting a new TDECU Stadium record with over 26,500 season tickets for its 2023 season.Â
The Cougars, who recently earned their highest preseason ranking in program history at No. 19, tip off the 2023 campaign with a ranked matchup in the Fertitta Center at 8 p.m. Friday against No. 22 USC, who reached the second round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament. The Cougars then face Southern Mississippi (6 p.m. Saturday) and McNeese (5 p.m. Sunday) to close out the Flo Hyman Classic and the season's opening weekend.
Â
"This is an exciting time to be a part of UH Cougar Athletics and especially our Volleyball Program," Head Coach David Rehr said. "With our success last year and the move to the Big 12, it thrills me to see the increase in attendance and general excitement for Houston Volleyball. I want to thank everyone who has purchased a season ticket or plans to come support our program!"
Â
The next time the Cougars play in the Fertitta Center will be in their Big 12 home opener, hosting West Virginia for a two-match set on Oct. 6 and 7. The remainder of Houston's home schedule features 2022 National Champions Texas and 2022 NCAA Tournament teams UCF, TCU and Iowa State. The Cougars close out the regular season by hosting Kansas State on Nov. 25.
Â
The Cougars are coming off a 30-win campaign, their first since the NCAA added women's volleyball in 1981. Houston won its first conference championship since 1999, made its first NCAA Tournament since 2000 and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen for the second time in program history.Â
