Loiars becomes third assistant after stops at Villanova, Duquesne, LaSalle, McNeese and UAlbany
HOUSTON – University of Houston Volleyball Head Coach David Rehr has added Jill Loiars to his staff as the team's third assistant coach after the NCAA expanded coaching staffs on July 1, the program announced on Monday.Â
Â
"We are thrilled to add someone with the experience and resume that Jill provides," Rehr said. "She'll be an incredible asset to our program, focusing on our middle blockers and assisting in our defensive gameplan."
Â
Loiars arrives at Houston following a successful Division I playing career with the University of Dayton and eight seasons of coaching.Â
Â
"I feel so honored and grateful to join the Houston volleyball staff," Loiars said. "Since Coach Rehr has been at UH, they have acquired and sustained great success - capped off with an amazing Sweet Sixteen run just last season. I am excited for this opportunity to grow as a coach and contribute to this group of elite athletes as we move forward into the Big 12!"
Â
Loiars spent 2022 as an assistant coach at UAlbany in New York. In her one season with the Great Danes, she helped mentor an America East All-Rookie team selection and three College Sport Communicators Academic All-District honrees.Â
Â
In 2021, the Winter Springs, Fla., native coached at McNeese, assisting in guiding the team to its first winning season in four years at 18-11 on the heels of a 5-7 record in the COVID-delayed 2020 season, which was played in the spring of 2021. The Cowgirls reached the Southland Conference Championship after a 9-5 record in league play, the program's first appearance in the championship match in 20 years.
Â
Prior to McNeese, she spent 10 months as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator as LaSalle University. However, in September 2020, the department announced the dissolution of the volleyball program. She had arrived at LaSalle after two seasons with Duquesne and began her coaching career as an assistant coach and video coordinator for Villanova in July 2016.
Â
Prior to her coaching career, Loiars played for four seasons at the University of Dayton as an outside hitter. She finished with the second most kills on the Flyers in both her junior and senior seasons, compiling a total of 917 in her career, averaging 2.53 per set. In total, she played in 363 sets across 105 matches, tallying a hitting percentage of .233 with 190 digs and 242 blocks. She was a 2015 selection to the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament team and a two-time A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll honoree, while also a member of the leadership council in her junior and senior seasons.Â
Â
Loiars graduated from Dayton with a bachelor's degree in communications with a specialization in media production and a minor in psychology. She lives in Houston with her fiancé, University of Houston Tennis Assistant Coach Giorgia Pozzan, and their two cats, Jax and Ramsay.
