
Tennis Earns ITA All-Academic Team, Six Named Scholar Athletes

Cougars receive team honor for fourth straight season
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team honors for the 2022-23 season for a fourth consecutive year, the organization announced Monday.
A total of six Cougars – senior Sofia Chang, junior Blanca Cortijo
Parreno, sophomore Maria Dzemeshkevich, freshman Sonya Kovalenko, senior Manasi Reddy and junior Sophie Schouten – were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. This marks the fourth recognition Reddy; second for Chang and Dzemeshkevich; and first for Cortijo Parreno, Kovalenko and Schouten.
"Our team's success academic success is truly something to be proud of," Head Coach Helena Besovic said. "They've shown incredible dedication, not just in their sport, but also in their studies. It's inspiring to see them receive well-deserved recognition for their academic achievements."
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the current academic year. For the ITA All-Academic Team, teams must have a GPA of 3.2 or above for the year.
