Wilson breaks 110-meter hurdles record again, Maswanganyi runs 9.91 for 100-meter dash record
AUSTIN, Texas – Houston track and field individuals were on display Friday night as juniors Shaun Maswanganyi and De'Vion Wilson both medaled and broke school records at the NCAA Championships.
Wilson only hit one hurdle during his 110-meter hurdles race, the first hurdle, running the final nine hurdles flawlessly on his way to a silver medal. The junior from Austin, Texas ran a new school record in the 110 hurdles, running 13.26 seconds after running a school record on Wednesday.
The Austin-native became just the second Cougar 110 hurdler to finish second overall in the 110 hurdles at the NCAA Championships and the first since 1996. Wilson is the first Cougar to earn All-American First Team honors in the 110 hurdles since Amere Lattin in 2019.
The school record in the 100-meter dash fell by 0.02 seconds as Maswanganyi ran 9.91 seconds and crossed the finish line third overall. Maswanganyi has now earned two medals in the 100 (silver medal in 2021) and has earned two All-American First Team honors. The previous two school records in the 100 were held by Cameron Burrell (9.93) and Leroy Burrell (9.94). Cameron Burrell's school record set in 2017 also came at the NCAA Championships.
The South African then ran the 200-meter dash just over an hour later and finished sixth overall in 20.07 seconds. Maswanganyi earned his third-straight All-American First Team honor in the 200.
The Houston men finished the NCAA Championships with 17.33 points, the most points by the Cougars since 2019.
