Townsend Takes All-American Second Team Honors

Hurdler finishes ninth at NCAA Championships, first Houston Top 10 finisher since 1991 in 400 hurdles
AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Sydni Townsend closed out Houston track and field's 2023 season at the NCAA Championships on Saturday with a ninth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, earning All-American Second Team honors.
Townsend ran 56.27 over the 400 meters that has 10 hurdles spaced out over the single-lap race. By finishing ninth overall, the Philadelphia, Pa., native earned All-American Second Team honors.
The senior is the first Cougar 400-meter hurdler to earn First or Second Team honors since assistant coach Sandra Glover in 1991.
With the conclusion of the NCAA Championships, the University of Houston 2022-23 athletic year is complete. The Houston track and field team concluded the 2023 outdoor season with five All-America honors and two medals.
