Battle for Bayou Bucket Date, Time Set

Cougars, Owls square off Saturday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m. inside Rice Stadium
HOUSTON – University of Houston Football and Rice will face off for the 45th time in the history of the programs on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 6 p.m. from Rice Stadium the schools announced Thursday.

The Battle for the Bayou Bucket presented by H-E-B, which was originally scheduled for either Sept. 8 or 9, will be the 42nd to decide the coveted trophy. The Cougars lead the all-time series 33-11 and have won a series-best seven consecutive games against their cross-town foes.

The remainder of Houston's game time selections will be announced on a 12-day or six-day notice. That schedule includes three Big 12 home games as the Cougars host Texas (Oct. 21), Cincinnati (Nov. 11) and Oklahoma State (Nov. 18). Houston pays league visits to Texas Tech (Sept. 30), Kansas State (Oct. 28), Baylor (Nov. 4) and UCF (Nov. 25).

Houston is looking to build on 20 combined wins, including a pair of bowl victories, over the last two seasons. Five Cougar student-athletes were recognized on Athlon Sports' 2023 All-Big 12 Team led by sophomore wide receiver Matthew Golden who earned first team honors.
