Cougar coaches host Nike Speed Camp on Houston campus
HOUSTON – Nike Sports Camps and the University of Houston track and field team announced the Nike Speed Camp to be held on campus at the Carl Lewis International Complex June 26-28.
US Sports Camps, the licensed provider of Nike Sports Camps, announced June 1 the addition of a new Nike Speed Camp in Houston led by nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis.
Hosted at the University of Houston's Tom Tellez Track at the Carl Lewis International Complex, individual and team sport athletes will have the opportunity to learn and train with some of the most decorated coaches in track and field, including Lewis, Houston Cougars Director of Track and Field Will Blackburn, and Assistant Head Coach Kyle Tellez.
"We are excited to host our first speed camp at the University of Houston with US Sports Camps," said Lewis, who currently serves as the Houston Track and Field Head Coach. "Speed is the common denominator in most sports. We look forward to teaching our science-based methods to anyone interested in being their fastest."
"Partnering with Carl Lewis and Houston Track and Field to host our first Nike Speed Camp in Texas is another great example of the elite coaching US Sports Camps is known for," said Tim Phelan, VP of Running and Sport Performance, US Sports Camps. "This team – one of the most storied programs in NCAA history – has close to a century of combined coaching and practical expertise, which will help young athletes have a best-in-class training experience this summer."
This three-day Nike Speed Camp at the University of Houston will run from June 26-28. It offers instruction for both individual and team sport athletes, ages 13-18, combining proven training methods, medal-winning coaches, and exciting new technologies to help athletes get faster.
Interested participants can register early by visiting Nike Speed Camp at the University of Houston (ussportscamps.com) or calling 1-800-645-3226.
