Eight Cougars Wrap Up International Competition

Five Houston grads, three current Cougars compete at USA Track and Field Championships, Jamaican Championships
EUGENE, Ore./KINGSTON, Jamaica – Five Houston track and field alumni and three current student-athletes represented H-Town Speed City at the USA Track and Field Championships and Jamaican Championships July 6-9.
Graduates Brian Barazza (3,000-meter steeplechase), Amere Lattin (400-meter hurdles), David Marquise Patrick (400 hurdles), Quivell Jordan-Bacot (400 hurdles) and Samiyah Samuels (long jump) repped Houston at the USA Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., while current student-athlete De'Vion Wilson (110-meter hurdles) also competed in Eugene.
Houston's Kelly-Ann Beckford (800 meters) and Linesha Thompson (400-meter dash) competed at the Jamaican Championships in Kingston, Jamaica.
Jordan-Bacot posted Houston's best finish at the USA Championships, finishing eighth overall in the 400 hurdles as Houston's lone competitor to make finals in any event. The hurdler posted fourth-fastest time in the first semifinal after winning his heat of the preliminary round.
Lattin joined Jordan-Bacot in the semifinal round but missed out on finals after running 49.94.
Barazza, Houston's school record holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the last Cougar cross country runner to compete at the NCAA Cross Country Championships finished eighth in his heat of the 3,000 steeplechase in a time of 8:33.34.
Samuels finished 11th overall in the long jump with a 6.14-meter jump.
For the current Cougars, Wilson made the semifinals of the 110-meter hurdles, one of seven college athletes to advance to the semifinals. The 2023 NCAA runner-up posted a 13.63 second time in the event to finish 14th.
In Jamaica, Beckford finished fourth of six in the 800-meter run, running 2:06.66, while Thompson finished seventh in her preliminary round heat of the 400-meter dash with a 56.15 second time.
