Four evening time slots, including 7 p.m. Big 12 opener against TCU on tap
HOUSTON – The University of Houston and TCU kick off the Big 12 Conference season at 7 p.m., Sept. 16, from TDECU Stadium on FOX, the league office announced Wednesday as part of its unveiling of several early television selections by its television partners FOX and ESPN.
Â
All four announced matchups are evening kickoffs for the Cougars, who are looking to build on 20 combined wins, including a pair of bowl victories over the last two seasons. The Horned Frogs finished 13-2 and reached the College Football National Championship a season ago.
Â
One season after a back-and-forth three-overtime affair that saw the Cougars victorious in San Antonio, Houston once again opens its season against UTSA. This go-around, the two programs square off from TDECU Stadium at 6 p.m., Sept. 2, on FS1.
Â
Houston hosts Sam Houston at 6 p.m., Sept. 23, on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. ESPN+, which is the digital home of Big 12 Now, is available via the ESPN App, ESPN.com or plus.espn.com for just $9.99 per month (or $99.99 per year) and can be canceled at any time.
Â
The Cougars welcome West Virginia for a weeknight matchup at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, on FS1. The matchup will be the first between the two programs. The league also announced timing for the 2023 Dr Pepper Big 12 Football Championship Game, which will take place at 11 a.m., Dec. 2, on ABC from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Â
Houston's matchup at Rice will take place either Friday, Sept. 8, or Saturday, Sept. 9, with finalized date, time and network to be announced in the coming weeks.
Â
The remainder of Houston's selections will be announced on a 12-day or six-day notice. That schedule includes three Big 12 home games as the Cougars host Texas (Oct. 21), Cincinnati (Nov. 11) and Oklahoma State (Nov. 18). Houston visits Rice in non-conference play on Sept. 9 and pays league visits to Texas Tech (Sept. 30), Kansas State (Oct. 28), Baylor (Nov. 4) and UCF (Nov. 25).
