Cougars dropped their last non-conference game of the season
HOUSTON – The University of Houston softball team couldn't corral Texas A&M in its final non-conference of the year, losing 9-3 on Wednesday night at Cougar Softball Stadium.
Emiley Kennedy (11-4) earned the victory for Texas A&M (33-18) out of the bullpen, tossing five innings and allowing runs after relieving Shaylee Ackerman in the third. Junior Taylor Edwards (3-7) picked up the decision for Houston (19-28).
Game Highlights:
2nd | After taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Texas A&M added another trio of runs in the second. A double from Allie Enright drove home a run, and a bases-loaded single off the bat of Koko Wooley plated a pair to push the score to 4-0.
3rd | Houston answered in the third with a pair of runs of its own. Senior Bree Cantu doubled home junior Paige Hulsey to start the scoring and later scored herself as Shaw singled to left field, making the score 4-2.
4th | Following a walk and a pair of singles to load the bases, Wooley pushed her RBI total to six on the day with a grand slam to right, extending the Aggies' lead to 8-2.
7th | After Texas A&M added another run on a solo home run in the fifth, Houston pushed back in the seventh. Sophomore Ja'Naiya Thomas reached on an error and reached third on a single from sophomore Baylea Myers, then scored on a wild pitch to shrink the gap to 9-3. The run was all Houston would get in the frame as Kennedy forced a popout in foul ground to cement the victory for Texas A&M.
