Rice takes season-long series finale 13-7
HOUSTON – Despite a six-run third inning, the Houston baseball team succumbed to a 13-7 loss against Rice in the finale of the Silver Glove Series on Wednesday night at Reckling Park.

Rice's (18-31) Garret Zaskoda (1-1) threw three hitless innings against the Cougars (28-20). He secured his first win of the season while Houston's Dan Wright (2-2) took his second loss. The Cougars finish the Silver Glove series with a 2-1 record against the Owls this season.

Key Innings
3rd | After Rice scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning, Houston responded in the top of the third with six runs. A Justin Murray single started the scoring stampede as it brought home junior third baseman Zach Arnold. Murray came across the plate on a Thomas Lyssy ground out before senior shortstop Ian McMillan laced a single into left field for a 3-3 score. Junior catcher Dylan Post knocked his first double of the season bringing home two runners for the Cougars first lead of the game at 5-3. Graduate transfer Drew Bianco immediately followed with a double of his own to left field to push Houston's lead to 6-3. But, it wasn't long before an Owls home run brought the game within one at 6-5.

7th | The two teams traded runs in the top of the fifth and bottom of the fourth before a four run inning from the Owls in the bottom of the seventh gave Rice the lead again at 10-7. The Owls tacked on a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win 13-7.

UP NEXT:
The Cougars continue its road trip with a three-game conference series at Tulane starting on Friday. The Friday and Saturday games are slated for 6 p.m. with Sunday's matchup at 1:30 p.m. The games will be broadcast on ESPN+ with a live radio show on The Varsity Network. Â
