Junior joins Austyn Reily and Wolfgang Glawe on All-Conference Team
HOUSTON – University of Houston junior Santiago De La Fuente was recognized as the American Athletic Conference Player of the Year and joined teammates Austyn Reily and Wolfgang Glawe on the All-Conference Team, the league announced Tuesday morning.
Competing in their first season at Houston, De La Fuente and Glawe earned the first American Athletic Conference postseason awards of their careers. Reily received his second straight All-Conference recognition after tying for fifth at the 2022 American Championships at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Fla.
All three Cougars were unanimous selections to the All-Conference Team in voting by the league's head coaches. Houston tied with Cincinnati for the most All-Conference Team picks.
This marked the second straight season under Director of Golf Jonathan Dismuke that 3+ Cougars earned All-American Athletic Conference honors.
ABOUT SANTIAGO DE LA FUENTE
De La Fuente has been the Cougars' most consistent performer in 2022-23 after transferring from Arkansas Tech.
This season, Fuente leads the Cougars with a 70.34 scoring average, which ranks as the second-best single-season mark in program history and trails only Rex Baxter's 69.57 average in 1956.

In Houston's most recent action, De La Fuente fired three straight rounds in the 60s and captured the individual championships at 10-under 200 for his second individual crown in 2022-23. Tied for Reily for the individual lead, he closed the tournament with three birdies over the last six holes of his Final Round.
De La Fuente was a two-time All-Great American Conference First-Team and GCAA All-Central Region selection in his first two seasons at Arkansas Tech before joining the Cougars.

He drained three eagles in the First Round of The American Championships on the way to a 64 to set a school record for low round at a conference tournament and set the Cougars' season-low 18-hole total.
