Tennis Falls Short to #64 South Florida

Freshman Gabriela Cortes collects Houston’s lone win in 4-1 defeat
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program battled hard, but fell 4-1 to #64 South Florida at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility on Monday.
Houston (11-7) picked up a singles win, while #64 South Florida (12-6) narrowly took the doubles point before getting three singles victories to clinch the match.
Houston's Laura Slisane and Sophie Schouten took the first doubles win on court one after defeating South Florida's Sierra Berry and Grace Schumacher, 6-4. The Bulls immediately answered back on court three, where Ireland Simme and Laura Pellicer toppled Gabriela Cortes and Maria Dzemeshkevich, 6-3, to even things up.
South Florida clinched the doubles point on court two after Nadja Bay Christians and Marta Falceto Font defeated Sonya Kovalenko and Azul Pedemonti, 6-3.
Cortes earned Houston's lone point of the afternoon defeating Simme 6-3 in both sets. This marks the Cochabamba, Bolivia, native's eighth singles victory of the season.
UP NEXT
Houston will travel to San Antonio, Texas to face UTSA at 1 p.m., Friday for its final road match of the season.
The Cougars will then host North Texas at 11 a.m., Friday, April 14 and will close out the regular season against #48 Rice at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 15 for Senior Day.
The Cougars will honor its three seniors, Sofia Chang, Azul Pedemonti and Manasi Reddy at the conclusion of the match.
