SILVER GLOVE SERIES. Houston and Rice will face off in the first of a season-long match-up in the Silver Glove Series. Last season, Houston won the series posting wins in the first two games before dropping the final contest.
LAST TIME OUT. The Cougars took down No. 8 East Carolina and won the series against the Pirates for the American conference opener.
WALK IT OFF. In the first game between No. 8 ECU and the Cougars, Houston's Cameron Nickens hit a walk off single to bring in Alex Lopez in the bottom of the 10th inning securing its first conference win. It was the first time the Cougars have walked it off this season and the first time since last season when Santiago Garcia hit a walk off single against Memphis in the Conference tournament.
HONOR ROLL. After their performances against East Carolina and Sam Houston both Alex Lopez and Justin Murray were named to the conferences' weekly honor roll.
REACHING SAFELY. Zach Arnold and Justin Murray are both on a 24-game reached base streak. Arnold has reached in every game that he has played this season while Murray's dates back to the second game of the season against Cal on Feb. 19.
MURRY MANIA. Two-way player Justin Murray has made his mark on the Houston baseball program. The junior made three pitching appearances last week throwing 6.2 innings and not allowing a run while striking out six batters. He earned his first win of the season against No. 8 ECU tossing the final three innings of the game before being credited with his third save in the final game of the series.
STEALTHY STEALING. Houston sits at 52 for 60 on stolen bases this season moving to No. 22 nationally. Over the week, Houston was a perfect 4 for 4 on stolen bases. Brandon Burckel leads the charge with 14 stolen bags.
