Pole vaulter ties school record for first outdoor conference award this year
HOUSTON – Senior Christyan Sampy set the school record in 2022 and matched his school record at the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday, earning American Athletic Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday. Â

Sampy leads the conference with his school record 5.55-meter pole vault mark from the Mt. SAC Relays and is tied for seventh nationally in the event.

The Houston native finished sixth overall in the Invitational Elite section of the event in Walnut, Calif., on Saturday but finished second among collegiate competitors.
Â
Sampy has now jumped 5.50-meters or higher in consecutive meets outdoor and six consecutive meets in all conditions.
Â
The senior is tied for the outdoor school record at 5.55 meters and owns the indoor school record outright at 5.54 meters.
