Cougars look to even series with Sam Houston State

DON SANDERS CUP. In the first contest between the two teams this season, Sam Houston took a 9-3 over the Cougars in Huntsville, Texas. A season-long series, Houston is looking to even the score with a win on Tuesday.
LAST TIME OUT. The Cougars earned their third straight weekend series win taking two of the contests against Wichita State. It also marked Houston second conference series win. The Cougars recorded their first run rule game in the final contest between the two teams winning 17-3.
MURRY MANIA. Two-way player Justin Murray has made his mark on the Houston baseball program. The junior leads the team with 4 saves including one against Wichita State this past weekend. The transfer pitched 2.0 clean innings against the Shockers while striking out three batters. He currently has two wins on the season and no losses through 10 appearances. In addition to his performance on the mound, Murray is tied for the team lead in runs scored with 23 and second in RBI with 22.
TWO-OUT MAGIC. Against Wichita State, Houston scored all of its 17 runs with two outs including 13 in the top of the 7th inning. During the seventh inning, Houston batted for 41 minutes and had 13 batters faced. With two outs, the Cougars tallied six hits, four extra base hits, two hit by pitches, three walks and two home runs.
HONOR ROLL. Junior catcher Anthony Tulimero had a standout weekly performance leading the conference in hits (10), RBI (8) and runs (7). Against Rice, he had a career high two home runs and four RBI while tying his career high in runs at three. He was named to the American Honor Roll on Monday.
DOUBLE PLAY. After turning three double plays against Rice and one against Wichita State, the Cougars are ranked 12th in the nation for double plays with 28 on the season as well as being No. 23 in double plays per game.
REACHING SAFELY. Zach Arnold and Justin Murray are both on a 28-game reached base streak. Arnold has reached in every game that he has played this season while Murray's dates back to the second game of the season against Cal on Feb. 19.
COUNTDOWN TO 400. A win against Sam Houston could mark Houston's head coach Todd Whitting's 400th career win. He is currently at 399.
WALK IT OFF. Houston walked off two teams in the space of one week. Sophomore outfielder Cameron Nickens registered both walk off hits. The first came against No. 8 ECU in the first game of the conference opening series winning 5-4 in 10 innings on March 31 followed by a walk off against Rice on Tuesday, April 4 also winning 5-4.
STEALTHY STEALING. Houston sits at 57 for 68 on stolen bases this season moving to No. 28 nationally. Brandon Burckel leads the charge with 15 stolen bags and is ranked No. 48 in the nation and first in the conference.
