Santiago De La Fuente Honored as The American Golfer of the Week

Junior earns honor for second time in 2022-23 after Top-13 finishes at Bayou City Collegiate Classic and Cabo Collegiate
HOUSTON – For the second time in 2022-23, University of Houston junior men's golfer Santiago De La Fuente was honored as the American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week.
The Guadalajara, Mexico, native earned the award after finishing among the Top-15 leaders in a pair of tournaments. He has led the Cougars in each of the last four tournaments and finished among the Top-13 leaders in every tournament in which he has competed this season.
De La Fuente fired three straight sub-par rounds with a pair of 69s in the final two rounds to tie for second at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club on Feb. 20-21.
In the program's most recent action, De La Fuente tied for 13th with a score of even-par 213 to lead the Cougars at the prestigious Cabo Collegiate in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. The tournament featured five of the nation's Top 10, 10 of the Top 25 and 13 of the Top 50 collegiate programs in the nation.
This season, De La Fuente has posted a 70.55 scoring average with 16 rounds of par or better, including eight in the 60s.
UP NEXT
Following the Cabo Collegiate and HCU Colin Montgomerie Invitational, the Cougars play host to their own All-American Intercollegiate on March 20-21 at Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas.
From there, Houston plays host in its second straight tournament when it welcomes an elite field to the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at Floridian National Golf Club on March 27-28.
