Wilkey Named The American Pitcher of the Week

Wilkey earns the honor after a 3-0 weekend
HOUSTON – On the heels of a three-game sweep of Memphis, University of Houston softball graduate student Kenna Wilkey was named the American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Bree Cantu also earned a spot on the conference's weekly honor roll.

Wilkey earns the victory in all three of Houston's wins last weekend, including a complete-game shutout in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Wilkey only ceded one unearned run while striking out 17 in 17 innings in the circle. She also held opposing hitters to a .194 batting average and allowed just two extra base hits.Â

The Braidwood, Ill., native, who was named the preseason conference pitcher of the year by D1Softball and Extra Inning Softball, is 10-7 on the season with a 2.24 ERA and 94 strikeouts.Â

Cantu finished the weekend 7 for 10 at the plate with two runs, two doubles and four RBIs. She scored the game-winning run in game two following a 3 for 3 showing in game one.Â

UP NEXT
Following its bye weekend in conference play, Houston returns home for the first time in over a month to battle Stephen F. Austin in a doubleheader on April 4. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 4 p.m. and both games will be streamed on ESPN+.
