Softball Heads to Arizona for Sun Devil Classic

HOUSTON – The University of Houston softball team continues a 16-game road streak with five contests at Arizona State University as part of the Sun Devil Classic.

The Cougars begin the weekend with a doubleheader, starting at noon CT Friday against New Mexico followed by a 2:30 p.m. CT tilt against rv/-- Charlotte. On Saturday, Houston plays another pair, beginning with another noon start against Michigan State, preluding a 2:30 p.m. game against Boise State. The Cougars close the weekend at 1 p.m. CT Sunday against #23/rv Arizona State.

FIRST PITCH

Kenna Wilkey picked up a pair of preseason honors, being named the preseason American Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year by both D1Softball and Extra Innings Softball.
Turiya Coleman and Taylor Edwards were named to The American honor roll after both put together exceptional performances in the Houston Tournament.
The Cougars return 14 members of their 2022 team while welcoming seven new players to the squad, including three transfers.
Houston plays 16 home games and no away games in the month of February, followed by 16 neutral site/away games and no home games in March.
Picking up from its success last season, Houston leads the American and ranks 32nd nationally with 0.47 double plays per game.
The Cougars are playing their last season in The American prior to joining the Big 12 Conference next season.
Houston ranks inside the top 100 nationally (out of 292 Division I softball programs) in batting average (83rd, .287), double plays per game (42nd, 0.44), doubles (92nd, 17), on base percentage (93rd, .364), shutouts (50th, 3) and stolen bases per game (49th, 1.69).
