Men Seek Eighth-Straight Title, Women’s Third in Reach

Houston travels to final American Indoor Championships before jump to the Big 12 Conference
HOUSTON – The University of Houston track and field team heads to Birmingham, Ala., for its final American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday at the CrossPlex. The men's team is seeking their eighth-straight indoor title while the women are seeking their third in four seasons.

STARTING LINE NOTES
- The men have won seven-straight indoor conference titles.
- The women are seeking their third title in four opportunities.
- The Cougars bring 10 conference-leading marks to the conference championships, five men's and five women's.
- Houston will take 40 top 8 marks (scoring marks) into the conference championships.
- Two Cougars have broken conference records in 2023, most recently Kelly-Ann Beckford's 800-meter school and conference record of 2:02.59 at the Arkansas Qualifier. De'Vion Wilson broke the conference record in the 60-meter hurdles when he broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a 7.69 second time in January.
- Beckford has broken the school record in the 800 in three consecutive meets. Houston's previous school record before this season had stood since 1999.
- Three Cougars have broken school records this season, Christyan Sampy broke the pole vault record in New Mexico, jumping 5.53 meters. Sampy, Beckford and Wilson are the three school record breakers this season.
- On top of the three school records, five men and six women posted top 10 all-time marks this season.
- 141 .5 points won the men's team title in 2022 and 156.5 points by UCF won the women's title.
