Priscilla Adejokun, Sydni Townsend win events, Kelly-Ann Beckford inches closer to two minutes
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. & LUBBOCK, Texas – With just one week until the conference championships, six Houston track and field women took advantage of their last opportunity to improve their seeds in the conference at the Matador Qualifier and Arkansas Qualifier with two event wins and another school record.
Houston's lone competitor at the Matador Qualifier, graduate Priscilla Adejokun, continued her streak of 20-meter throws in the weight throw with a 21.17-meter winning throw. Adejokun brings the conference's leading mark to Birmingham, Ala., in a week's time of 21.47 meters that she set the third meet of the season in January.
For the third-straight meet, senior Kelly-Ann Beckford broke the school record in the 800-meter run, destroying her previous record by over two seconds with a 2:02.59 time at the Arkansas Qualifier. Beckford brings the conference's leading time to Birmingham and ranks eighth nationally.
In her first competition of the season, Sydni Townsend posted the conference-leading mark in the 400-meter dash. Townsend, a transfer from North Carolina A&T, ran 53.34 in the 400 and finished sixth overall in a stacked field with two professional athletes finishing ahead of her.
The final event of the Arkansas Qualifier, the 1,600-meter relay, Houston's women's relay finished second overall and posted the conference's third-fastest time with a time of 3:44.27.
