Women’s Golf Opens Spring Season at San Diego State Classic

Two-day event tees off Monday at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. – Fresh off its winter break, the University of Houston Women's Golf program opens its spring season when it tees off Monday morning at the San Diego State Classic.
The Cougars will play 36 holes beginning at 10 a.m. (CST) Monday, on the 6,329-yard, par-72 The Farms Golf Club. The Final Round begins at 10 a.m. (CST) Tuesday.
Houston stands at #28 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index and at #29 in the recent Golfstat national rankings.
The San Diego State Classic will be the first of five regular-season tournaments for the Cougars in the spring.

MEET the COUGARS
Under the leadership of Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Gumm, the Cougars will be represented by freshman Natalie Saint Germain, freshman Moa Svedenskiold, freshman Alexa Saldana, super senior Annie Kim and super senior Becca Earl.
Competing in her first collegiate season, Saint Germain leads the Cougars with a 70.50 scoring average and set a school record with a 64 in the Final Round of the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club in Norman, Okla., on Sept. 26, 2022.
The Prague native stands at No. 28 in the Golfstat individual national rankings as of Feb. 8.
Fellow freshman Moa Svedenskiold is a close second among the Cougars with a 70.75 average and leads the team with nine rounds of par or better. The Halmstad, Sweden, native closed the Jim West Challenge with back-to-back 68s on Oct. 24, 2022, to earn medalist honors, becoming the first Cougar freshman to earn an individual title.
She was honored as the American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Month for October 2022 following that performance.
After transferring from Wofford following an award-winning four-year career, Earl will make her Houston debut at the San Diego State Classic. The Essex, England, native won three tournaments and earned 16 Top-10 finishes during her career at Wofford.
TEAM FIELD
The Cougars will compete in a 12-team field against student-athletes from #30 Iowa State, #39 Georgia, #50 Denver, BYU, Colorado, New Mexico, Oregon State, UC Davis, UNLV, Washington State and host San Diego State
PAIRINGS
For Monday's first day, the Cougars will compete in groups with student-athletes from UC Davis and Washington State off holes 4-8.
Germain begins the day in the first group off No. 5 at 10 a.m. (CST) Monday, with Svedenskiold (No. 5), Saldana (No. 6), Kim (No. 7) and Earl (No. 8) following.

Following the San Diego State Classic, the Cougars return home to play host to the ICON Invitational at Golf Club of Houston on Feb. 27-28, in Humble, Texas.
From there, Houston opens the month of March when it tees off at the Trinity Forest Invitational, hosted by SMU at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas on March 6-7.
