Tullos Earns Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week Honors

Graduate posted 1.57 blocks per set last weekend against UCF
HOUSTON – University of Houston Volleyball graduate Rachel Tullos earned her first Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor after a stellar weekend against UCF, the league announced Tuesday.
Over the pair of matches, Tullos tallied 11 blocks, averaging 1.57 per set, to lead the conference in the category for the week. She also added four digs, six kills with a .357 hitting percentage and two aces.Â
The middle blocker opened the weekend with three blocks and a kill in a sweep of the Knights on Friday followed by an eight-block showing in Saturday's four-set win. She also added five kills and a .400 hitting percentage in the series finale against UCF.
Tullos has tallied 64 blocks this season and broke Houston's total blocks record earlier this season. She now has 618 in her career, the first Cougar to tally more than 600. She's also in second on both the block assists and block solos lists.Â
The honor is Houston's third Defensive Player of the Week selection this season. Tullos joins junior Kellen Morin and senior Kate Georgiades with recognitions. It's also Tullos' sixth career Player of the Week honor.Â

Houston heads back on the road for its last series matches of the season. The team heads to Norman, Okla., for a pair of battles against Oklahoma at 6 p.m., Thursday and 6 p.m., Friday.Â
