Georgiades Named Big 12 Conference Libero of the Year; Three Named All-Big 12

Three players capture four individual honors in Cougars’ first season in Big 12 Conference
HOUSTON – In the team's inaugural Big 12 Conference Season, three University of Houston Volleyball student-athletes earned league postseason awards, including senior Kate Georgiades picking up her third career conference Libero of the Year honor.

Georgiades and graduate Kenna Sauer were voted to the All-Big 12 First Team while Abbie Jackson earned a spot on the second team. Georgiades' selection represents the University of Houston's first Big 12 positional Player of the Year honors.Â

The trio have led the Cougars to a second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and a ranking as high as #13 in the AVCA poll. The team has a 18-9 record, including an 11-7 record in league play, to finish their inaugural season tied for fourth after being picked to finish sixth in the preseason poll.Â

ABOUT KATE GEORGIADES
Georgiades, a two-time American Athletic Conference Libero of the Year, picked up her first Libero of the Year honors in the Big 12 while also being selected to the All-Big 12 First Team. This season, she's posted 427 digs, including 287 against conference opponents. The mark placed her at second in the conference with 4.63 digs per set during conference play. Her mark of 4.51 digs per set across the entire season ranks second in the Big 12.Â

Not only stellar with digs, Georgiades tallied 154 service receptions and only nine reception errors while adding 67 assists throughout the season. She's recorded double-digit digs in 23 of 27 matches, including 20-or-more against Southern Miss., SMU, Kansas, West Virginia, Texas, Texas Tech, and TCU. She's also added a team-leading 26 service aces.

Georgiades sits at fifth on Houston's career digs list with 1,778, with a career total of 2,005.Â

A preseason All-Big 12 selection, Georgiades earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 24 after tallying 34 digs and three service aces in six sets against Texas Tech.Â

ABOUT KENNA SAUER
Already a two-time All-Big 12 First Team honoree at Texas Tech, Sauer earned another First-Team selection in her fifth season of play. She led Houston in kills (335) and points (385.5) over the season while also pacing the Cougars in kills (237), kills per set (3.82), points (272.0), points per set (4.39) and service aces (21) during league contests.

Sauer tallied a .238 hitting percentage while starting every match at outside hitter. She led Houston with 10 double-doubles and tallied double-digit kill performances in 19 of Houston's matches this season. Sauer also plays exceptional defensively, tallying 270 digs and 46 blocks. Sauer's mark of 3.56 kills per set sits at 11th in the league and 4.10 points per set is eighth in the conference.Â

Sauer joined Georgiades as a preseason All-Big 12 selection and picked up her third career Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors on Tuesday after tallying 46 kills and a .343 hitting percentage across the Baylor and Kansas State matches.Â

ABOUT ABBIE JACKSON
Jackson picks up her fourth career All-Conference selection with the All-Big 12 Second Team honor, joining her three All-American Athletic Conference First-Team accolades in 2020, 2021 and 2022.Â

Jackson tallied 326 kills, including a season-high 21 against North Texas, with a .222 hitting percentage and led the team with 3.58 kills per set, a mark that sits at ninth in the Big 12. Her 10.10 attacks per set is sixth in the league while her 4.13 points per set is seventh among Big 12 players. She also added 25 service aces, 232 digs and 43 blocks.Â

Among active NCAA Division I players, Jackson ranks first with 5,780 career attacks and fourth with 1,930 career kills. She also sits at seventh on the Division I active career leaders lists with 11.27 attacks per set and 182 service aces. Jackson is second on Houston's career kills list with 1,930 and career attacks list with 5,780. The outside hitter also ranks first on the Cougars' all-time aces list with 182 and entered into the Top 10 with 1,177 digs.Â
