
Soccer Earns Six CSC Academic All-District Honors

Cougars find six student-athletes on Academic All-District team for second straight year
HOUSTON – Six members of the University of Houston Soccer program earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Senior midfielder Caitlyn Matthews (exercise science) earned the award for the second consecutive season, while senior forward Maddie Bowers (marketing), junior midfielders Alexis Fowlkes (psychology) and Juliet Moore (health promotions), sophomore defender Alex Whitcraft (exercise science) and sophomore goalkeeper Olivia Dietrich (pre-business) each earned Academic All-District recognitions for the first time in their careers.
Matthews tallied three goals, five assists and 11 points, Fowlkes, a captain for the Cougars, scored a pair of goals and assists, and Moore compiled five assists on the season.
Bowers recorded four goals and nine points in 2023, including a brace against Houston Christian.
A force at the net, Dietrich recorded 76 saves, including clean sheets against Washington and Kansas.
Whitcraft was the lone Cougar to start every game for Houston for a second consecutive season.
ABOUT THE AWARD
The 2023 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
