Cougars tee off at Medinah Country Club on Monday morning with 36 holes scheduled
MEDINAH, Ill. – The University of Houston Women's Golf opens play at the Illini Invitational at Medinah when it tees off on Course No. 2 at Medinah Country Club on Monday morning.
The Cougars will play 36 holes Monday with the Final Round teeing off Tuesday on the 6,166-yard, par-72course. Monday's First Round begins with an 8:30 a.m., shotgun start with the Final Round starting at 9 a.m., Tuesday.
The Cougars, who stand at #19 in the latest Golfweek rankings, enter this week's event after a pair of Top-Four finishes to open the season.
Houston swept the team and individual championships at the season-opening Sam Golden Invitational in Corinth, Texas, on Sept. 11-12. The Cougars finished with a 54-hole total of 48-under 816, the fourth-lowest team total in NCAA history.
In their most recent action, the Cougars finished fourth at the Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club on Sept. 23-25.

MEET the COUGARS
Under the leadership of Carolyn Macow Leatherwood Head Coach Lydia Gumm, Houston will be represented by sophomore Moa Svedenskiold, sophomore Alexa Saldana, senior Nicole Abelar, junior Hyeonji Kang and sophomore Natalie Saint Germain.
This season, Svedenskiold leads the Cougars with a 68.33 scoring average and four rounds in the 60s. The Halmstad has posted seventh-place individual finishes in each of the team's first two tournaments and is the only Cougar to shoot par or lower in every round this season.
Abelar and Saldana are tied for second on the team with a 69.67 with Saldana posting five rounds of par or better.
After competing as an individual in each of the first two tournaments, Kang will compete in the Cougars' lineup for the first time after transferring from Hawai'i this summer.
Saint Germain will make her season debut this week. As a freshman in 2022-23, the Prague, Czech Republic, native finished second on the team with a 72.79 average and 15 rounds of par or better and set a school record with a 64 in the Final Round of the Schooner Fall Classic on Sept. 26, 2022.
TEAM FIELD
Houston will compete in a 15-team field against Alabama, Georgia, LSU, UNC Wilmington, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Mississippi, San Jose State, SMU, TCU, Texas Tech and host Illinois.
PAIRINGS
For Monday's play, Houston will compete in groups with student-athletes from Mississippi and LSU.
Svedenskiold starts the day for the Cougars off No. 4 at 8:30 a.m. with Saldana (first group off No. 5), Abelar (second group off No. 5), Kang (No. 6) and Saint Germain (first group off No. 7) following.

MISSING in ACTION
The Cougars will be without the services of freshman Maelynn Kim, who has competed in each of the team's first two tournaments… but for a good reason.
During the summer, the Houston native and Seven Lakes High School product won the individual title at The Ascendant LPGA Benefiting Volunteer of America Girls Championship. For her impressive achievement, she earned an exemption into this week's The Ascendant LPGA benefiting Volunteers of America at Old American Golf Club in The Colony, Texas.
This season, Kim has posted a 70.33 scoring average with five rounds of par or better and earned a career-best 17th-place finish at the Schooner Falls Classic, thanks to a 66 in the First Round, on Sept. 23-25.
UP NEXT
Following the Illini Invitational at Medinah, Houston closes the fall season when it competes at the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club in San Marcos, Texas, on Oct. 20-22.
Following the holiday break, the Cougars open their spring season when they play at the Nexus Collegiate at Albany Golf Club in Nassau, Bahamas, on Feb. 12-13, 2024.
