Houston defender Sofia Weber reflects on Sunday’s win over West Virginia
By Sofia Weber, Houston Soccer Junior Defender
First Big 12 win
It's an incredible feeling that we were the first program to win a Big 12 game for the University of Houston. It was a win we really needed and earned. We knew every single game coming into this conference was going to be a fight, and we fought to earn the win.

The Big 12 Conference is one of the top conferences in the nation, and that's why a lot of us chose to come to Houston to have the opportunity to compete at this level.
Game plan
A lot of credit goes to our coaching staff. Tactically, we switched up the runs that we were making on the corner kicks. We scored the goals off the corner kicks, so that worked as well.
That's just credit to them, how much work they put in and us fighting for the ball and not being afraid to put our heads on it.
Game winner
It was such a great feeling being able to score the game-winning goal. It made me happy to be here, happy to be a part of the team, and it makes me happy to have teammates who I know are going to work for me every minute of the game.
Postgame celebration
I honestly felt a little emotional about it because we've been so close to getting Big 12 wins. Scoring early is hard because you have a lot of time to kill off the clock. We did that, and it took everyone on our team to do so.
I'm proud of the team, and I know it's going to be great energy going forward for the next five games.
From Connecticut to Houston
Coming from Connecticut, I was excited and, when I came on campus, I felt at home. I love the coaches, and I don't think I've ever had more supportive and disciplined coaches who are putting in work every single day, even on our off days.
We're a young team, and we also have a lot of transfers, so that made it easier for me coming here. Despite all the new faces, we want to work hard for the coaching staff and for each other.
I love Houston, the university, my teammates and coaches. It's been a great switch for me.
