Georgiades Named Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week

Georgiades tallied 34 digs, averaging 5.67 per set against Texas Tech
HOUSTON – University of Houston Volleyball senior libero Kate Georgiades earned her first weekly honors from the Big 12 Conference on Tuesday, being selected as the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week.
Georgiades tallied 34 digs in a pair of sweeps against Texas Tech last weekend, averaging 5.67 per set. She also added five assists, three service aces and a kill. Her defensive effort helped the Cougars hold the Red Raiders to a pair of sub-.100 hitting efficiencies, with Texas Tech hitting .081 on Friday and .077 on Saturday.
The College Station, Texas, native opened the weekend by tallying a match-best 20 digs in the series opener, her sixth 20-plus dig performance of the season. She followed it up with another match-best 14 digs on Saturday.
Overall, she now has 90 double-digit dig matches in her career and 15 this season. She's tallied double-digits in the category in all but three matches this season.Â
