Eighteen Cougars on NFL Ranks to Open Season

Logan Hall, Marcus Jones, and Damarion Williams headline newest Cougars in the NFL
HOUSTON – With the start of the 2022 NFL regular season underway Thursday, 18 former Houston football athletes have earned their way onto their respective teams' 53-man rosters or practice squad league-wide. Here's a look at with former Cougars will be showcasing their talents in the NFL this season:
Matthew Adams, LB | Chicago Bears
Entering his fifth season in the NFL and his first with the Chicago Bears.
Adams recorded 55 tackles, six tackles for loss and one fumble recovery over four seasons in Indianapolis. In 48 games for the Cougars, Adams posted 259 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and five forced fumbles.
Kyle Allen, QB | Houston Texans
Entering his fifth season in the NFL and his first with the Houston Texans.
Adams spent the last four seasons with the Carolina Panthers (2018-2019) and the Washington Commanders (2020-21), combining for 4,318 passing yards and 24 touchdowns. In two seasons at Houston, Allen tossed 771 passing yards, four touchdowns and posted a career high 141.2 quarterback rating in five games.
David Anenih, DL | Tennessee Titans
Entering his first season in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans. Anenih was signed as an undrafted free agent and eventually signed to the practice squad prior to the 2022 NFL season. In five season with the Cougars, Anenih collected 98 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, 20.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.
Tyus Bowser, LB | Baltimore Ravens
Entering his sixth season in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens. Bowser will start the season on the reserve and physically unable to perform list.
Coming off a career-season, Bowser has recorded 139 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 17.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in 80 games. In four seasons with the Cougars, Bowser was a force on the defensive front as he racked up 136 tackles, 27.5 tackles for loss, 21.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Logan Hall, DL | Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Entering his first season in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Hall was selected 33rd overall in the 2022 NFL Draft after a distinguished senior season with the Cougars in 2021. In four seasons at Houston, Hall consistently improved every season and evolved into a top defensive line prospect as he ended his Cougar career with 98 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks and one forced fumble.
William Jackson III, CB | Washington Commanders
Entering his sixth season in the NFL and his second with the Washington Commanders.
Jackson III spent the last five season with the Cincinnati Bengals and the Washington Commanders, where he has totaled 189 tackles, 49 passes defended and five interceptions with one pick-six. In one season with the Cougars, Jackson III recorded 43 tackles, five interceptions including two pick-sixes and one fumble recovery in 12 games.
Josh Jones, OL | Arizona Cardinals
Entering his third season in the NFL season with the Arizona Cardinals.
In two seasons, Jones appeared in 30 games while starting in 12 games last season. Jones was a cornerstone in the Cougars' offensive line after only allowing 18 pressures on 1,282 pass-blocking snaps during his final three seasons at Houston.
Marcus Jones, CB | New England Patriots
Entering his first season in the NFL with the New England Patriots.
Jones was selected 85th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. In two seasons at Houston, Jones was a swiss-army knife with his playmaking ability in all aspects of the game. Jones finished his Houston career with 71 tackles, six interceptions, and one forced fumble on the defensive end while posting 63 punt/kick returns, 1323 total return yards and five touchdowns on special teams.
Case Keenum, QB | Buffalo Bills
Entering his tenth season in the NFL and his first season with the Buffalo Bills.
Keenum has seen time with the Houston Texans, St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, Washington Commanders, Cleveland Browns and the Buffalo Bills, where he has recorded 14,876 passing yards and 78 touchdowns over nine seasons. Keenum ranks as one of the best quarterbacks in program history as he finished his Cougar career with 1,546 completion for 19,217 yards and 155 touchdowns.
Ed Oliver, DL | Baltimore Ravens
Entering his fourth season in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills.
The former ninth-overall pick has recorded 117 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 12 sacks and three forced fumbles over three seasons whole piling up 43 tackles, five tackles for loss and five sacks during the 2019 regular season. With 192 tackles, 53 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks in three season at Houston, Oliver was a standout nationwide while also became the first Houston player ever to win the Outland Trophy in 2017.
Elandon Roberts, LB | Miami Dolphins
Entering his seventh season in the NFL and his third season with the Miami Dolphins.
Roberts spent the last six season with the New England Patriots and the Miami Dolphins, totaling 350 tackles, 29 tackles for loss and four forced fumbles. In three season at Houston, Roberts finished with 175 tackles, 23.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and one interception in 25 games played.
Kody Russey, OL | New England Patriots
Entering his first season in the NFL with the New England Patriots. Russey was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Patriots, later signing to practice squad before the start of the 2022 NFL season. In his one season for the Cougars, Russey was the starting center and a centerpiece to one of The American's best offensive lines.
Marquez Stevenson, WR | Buffalo Bills
Entering his second season in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills. Marquez will start the season on the injured list.
Stevenson was selected 203rd overall by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round of the 2021 Draft. With the Bills, Stevenson has recorded 21 punt/kick returns and 297 return yards. In four seasons at Houston, Stevenson was a top receiving threat with 147 receptions, 2269 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns in 32 games.
Grant Stuard, LB | Indianapolis Colts
Entering his second season in the NFL and first with the Indianapolis Colts.
Stuard was selected by the Buccaneers with the 259th pick in the seventh round of the 2021 Draft. Stuard enters his first season with the Colts after being traded prior to the 2022 NFL seasons. In four season with the Cougars, Stuard tallied 191 tackles and 16.5 tackles for loss while moving around at linebacker, safety and defensive back.
Payton Turner, DL | New Orleans Saints
Entering his second season in the NFL with the New Orleans Saints.
Turner was drafted 28th overall by the Saints in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, Turner tallied 12 tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack in five games. In four seasons at Houston, Turner recorded 115 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, one interception and one forced fumble.
Greg Ward Jr. , WR | Philadelphia Eagles
Entering his seventh season in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles. Ward will begin the season on the injured list.
A practice squad player from 2016-2019, Ward earned his way into the roster and the wide receiving room, having recorded 88 catches for 768 yards and 10 touchdowns in 40 games. In four season at Houston, Ward shifted the culture on the football field for the Cougars as a dual threat quarterback with 8,704 yards and 52 touchdowns through the air along with 2,381 yards and 39 touchdowns on the ground.
Damarion Williams, CB | Baltimore Ravens
Entering his first season in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens.
Williams was drafted 141st overall by the Ravens in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In three season with the Cougars, Williams produced 163 tackles, three interceptions including one for a pick-six, along with one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Brandon Wilson, S | Cincinnati Bengals
Entering his sixth season in the NFL with the Cincinnati Bengals.
In five seasons, Wilson posted 59 tackles and three forced fumbles in 60 games while also being heavily involved on special teams. In four seasons at Houston, Wilson posted 138 tackles, 15 passes defended, six tackles for loss and two interceptions. Wilson will start the season on the reserve and physically unable to perform list.
