Georgiades Earns Conference Weekly Honor, Theut on Honor Roll

HOUSTON – University of Houston junior libero Kate Georgiades was recognized for her defensive playmaking with her second American Athletic Conference weekly award of the season. The defensive player of the week nod is also the sixth in her career. Graduate Isabel Theut was also placed on The American's Weekly Honor Roll.
Georgiades helped the Cougars post a 2-0 week to begin conference play, aiding defensively in wins against Tulane (3-2) and Cincinnati (3-1). The junior posted 43 receptions and 54 digs, averaging six digs per set overall.
Opening the week with a match-best and new season-high 33 digs against Tulane, the College Station, Texas, native also posted six assists and a service ace against the Green Wave.
In the week's finale against Cincinnati, Georgiades posted 21 digs while adding a career-best six service aces and another six assists.
Georgiades has recorded 20-or-more digs in each of the last three matches and in 10-of-13 matches this season.
Theut helped lead the team offensively, posting 37 kills, a .378 hitting percentage and six blocks on the week. She led Houston in kills in both games, tallying a match-leading 22 at Tulane followed by 15 against Cincinnati.

The Cougars continue American Athletic Conference play on Friday, Sept. 30, as they head back on the road, heading to Greenville, N.C. to take on East Carolina. First serve in the match is scheduled for 5 p.m. Houston holds a 14-8 advantage in the all-time series against the Pirates and split the two results against ECU last season.
