Cougar defensive end sets league record, shines at Texas Tech
HOUSTON – University of Houston Football senior defensive lineman Derek Parish has been named The American's Defensive Player of the Week following his record-setting performance on Saturday against Texas Tech, the league office announced Monday.
Parish set an American record with 4 ½ sacks and 6 ½ tackles for loss alongside 11 tackles and one forced fumble. The senior is one of two players nationally since 2000 to record at least 4 ½ sacks, 6 ½ tackles for loss and a forced fumble in a single game.
According to Pro Football Focus, Parish registered 12 pressures. The American weekly honor was the third in two weeks for the Cougars with senior quarterback Clayton Tune (Offensive Player of the Week) and senior kicker Bubba Baxa (Special Teams Player of the Week) earning Week 1 accolades.
