Cougars post a year-long team GPA over 3.30
HOUSTON – The University of Houston volleyball program was one of several collegiate programs to earn the United States Marine Corps-American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award, announced on Monday by the AVCA.
Â
The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale.
Houston posted a 3.39 team GPA in the fall semester while winning 25 matches and then posted a 3.35 GPA in the spring semester.
Â
"Academic achievement does not happen by accident," said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. "I'm so proud of the hundreds of coaching staffs that make excellence in the classroom a priority."
Â
The Cougars enter the 2022 season with high expectations coming off a 25-win season for the first time since 1994 and return six of seven starters from the 2021 team.
Â
Houston opens the season on the road at LSU's Tiger Classic against cross-town rival Rice, Aug. 26.
