National-Best Three Gold Glove Finalists

HOUSTON – The University of Houston led the nation with three ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Finalists as senior first baseman Ryan Hernandez, redshirt sophomore third baseman Zach Arnold and junior pitcher Jaycob Deese were all recognized for their defensive prowess.

Houston was one of four programs with multiple honorees, joining Arkansas (2), Stanford (2) and Texas (2). Finalists are voted on and selected by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America committee. The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007 and are presented annually to the top defensive players.

The trio helped the Cougars set a program record with a .984 fielding percentage. Hernandez posted a .998 fielding percentage, committing just one error in 533 chances. Arnold was The American's lone third baseman with one or no errors in 160-plus chances. Deese caught three runners stealing while posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Gold Glove winners will be announced Wednesday. The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 13,000 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries.
