Three Houston standouts on MLB Opening Day rosters
HOUSTON – Three former Houston pitchers are on Major League Opening Day rosters and nearly 20 other former players are in the professional ranks with the MLB season underway this week. For a complete list, click here.

Aaron Fletcher, in his first season with the Pirates' organization, qualified for Pittsburgh's Opening Day roster. After four seasons in the minor leagues, Jake Lemoine will look to make his Major League debut with Oakland. John King, who missed some time due to injury in 2021, is on the Rangers' Opening Day roster.

Eight Cougars begin their seasons at Triple-A including four players in their first season with new organizations in Kyle Dowdy (Cincinnati), Daniel Ponce de Leon (L.A. Angels), Austin Pruitt (Oakland) and Patrick Weigel (Seattle).

Cougar fans will not have to travel far to support a player of players in the Astros' organization with Nick Hernandez and Corey Julks beginning their seasons with the Triple-A Sugar Land Space Cowboys.

Three Cougars will compete at the Double-A level including Connor Hollis who comes over to the Padres' organization and will compete with the San Antonio Missions. Trey Cumbie has joined the Blue Jays and starts out with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

Seven former Houston student-athletes will compete at Single-A including 2021 second-round draft selection Robert Gasser (San Diego – Fort Wayne TinCaps). Joe Davis and Devon Roedahl will compete as teammates with the Greenville Drive (Boston) as will Kyle Lovelace and Steven Rivas with the Tri-City Dust Devils (L.A. Angels).
