Tulimero Homer Walks Off Memphis

Â
The 411-foot home run, deposited on to Elgin Street, was Houston's first walk-off homer since Tyler Bielamowicz struck the game winner against No. 19 Texas in the 11th inning on March 6, 2021. The homer was the second of the season for Tulimero and moved Houston to 25-14 overall and 6-5 in American play.
Â
One night after drawing the loss, Cougar closer Ben Sears (6-2) entered the ninth inning with two aboard and no outs. Following a sacrifice bunt to put runners at second and third, the right-hander induced a pair of pop outs to end the threat.
Â
Memphis (18-17, 4-7 American) scored three times in the eighth inning, evening the game on a two-out, two-run single from eight-hole hitter Blake Daniels. Designated hitter Jacob Compton clubbed a one-out solo home run off reliever Derrick Cherry to start the rally.
The Cougars threatened in the home half as Ian McMillan walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a wild pitch. The Tigers opted to intentionally walk Brandon Uhse before Zach Arnold's liner was snared by first baseman Chris Swanberg.Â
Â
Houston scored four runs in the first inning highlighted by Tulimero and Ryan Hernandez two-run singles. The Cougars capitalized on three hits and a pair of walks, jumping on top early for a second straight night.
Â
Houston starter Kyle LaCalameto impressed, limiting Memphis to one run on five hits while striking out eight across a career-high 7.0 innings. The southpaw stranded the bases loaded in the fourth and limited the Tigers to 1-for-8 (.125) with runners aboard while lowering his ERA to 3.19.
Â
Memphis starter Dalton Fowler permitted four runs on seven hits, allowing six walks with a pair of strikeouts in 6.1 innings. The Tigers cut their deficit to three on a sacrifice fly from Logan Kohler in the third inning.
