The Cougars plated the game's first six runs including using four hits to produce four runs in the second inning. Memphis starter Landon Gartman, who had allowed 14 runs in 47.1 innings entering play, permitted eight (seven earned) on nine hits across 5.0 innings.
Â
Lopez matched a career high with three RBIs and started the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning. Burckel continued to be a spark plug in the nine-hole, notching a career high three hits while adding an RBI-single in the second inning and scoring on a wild pitch after leading off the sixth inning with a double.
Â
Houston starter Jaycob Deese allowed six runs on eight hits with three walks and a strikeout in 4.2 innings. Reliever Maddux Miller stranded a pair of runners in the fifth, giving way for Jackson Dannelley who allowed one run in 2.0 innings.
