Cougars Advance to American Athletic Conference Quarterfinals

Houston sweeps ECU, 4-0 in first round
TULSA, Okla. – Houston Tennis defeated ECU, 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the 2022 American Athletic Conference Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
No. 6 Houston (14-9) will look to keep the momentum going 9 a.m. Thursday against No. 3 Tulsa (15-7) in the quarterfinals at the Case Tennis Center. No. 11 ECU caps its season at 4-15 overall.

DOUBLES
In doubles competition, Sophie Gerits and Laura Slisane outscored ECU's Anne Lou Champion and Isabella Rivera (6-1). On Court One, Azul Pedemonti teamed up with Blanca Cortijo Parreno to defeat Alisha Hussain and Ines Bachir, 6-3.
SINGLES
Following the doubles point, the Cougars moved onto singles competition, sweeping the Pirates, 3-0.
On Court One, Maria Dzemeshkevich defeated Isabella Rivera Orti (6-1, 6-0). On Court Six, Gabriela Giraldo gave Houston a 3-0 lead after defeating Sofia Cerezo Holgado (6-2, 6-1).
Slisane sent the Cougars to quarterfinals after defeating Alisa Diercksen on Court Two (6-0, 6-3).
