Women’s Golf Finishes Play at The Bruzzy

Seniors Ariana Saenz and Maria Jose Martinez with 70s in Final Round for team low round of tournament
FORT WORTH, Texas – University of Houston seniors Ariana Saenz and Maria Jose Martinez each fired 2-under 70s on Tuesday to lead the Cougars during the Final Round of The Bruzzy at Waterchase Golf Club.
Starting her day off No. 16, Saenz moved into red numbers with a birdie on the par-4 17th hole and quickly moved to 3-under with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 4-5. Following a bogey on No. 8, the Porter, Texas, native added her fourth and final birdie of the tournament on the par-5 13th to finish with a 54-hole score of 221 and tie for 32nd.
Martinez began the Final Round off No. 18 and, like Saenz, quickly moved under par with a birdie on the par-4 first hole. After a bogey on No. 3 returned her to even-par, Martinez drained four straight pars before sinking her second birdie of the day on the par-4 eighth hole.
Despite her final bogey on No. 11, the Alvarado, Mexico, native added two more birdies in her final five holes to finish at 222 and tie for 38th.
Senior Annie Kim was the Cougars' leading performer throughout the tournament. The Seoul native opened the tournament with back-to-back 73s Monday and tied for 28th at 220.
Sophomore Nicole Abelar tied for 54th at 226, while sophomore Delaney Martin tied for 69th at 231.
As a team, the Cougars posted their low round of the tournament with an even-par 288 and finished 11th at 888.
No. 17 Baylor captured the team championship with a score of 843 to finish 12 shots ahead of No. 30 TCU. No. 7 Oklahoma State (858), No. 13 Texas (858), No. 46 North Texas (864) and No. 37 Iowa State (868) rounded out the Top-Six leaders.
TCU's Sabrina Iqbal earned medalist honors with a score of 11-under 207 to finish two strokes in front of Baylor's Gurleen Kaur. North Texas' Audrey Tan finished third at 208, while Texas' Bentley Cotton was fourth at 209.
This was the Cougars' final regular-season tournament of the year before heading to the American Athletic Conference Championships later this month.

The Cougars will learn their NCAA postseason fate during the Selection Show, airing at 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, on Golf Channel.
Seventy-two teams and 12 individuals not on those teams will compete at six NCAA Regional sites across the nation. Those venues include Stanford Golf Course (Stanford, Calif.); Vanderbilt Legends Club (Franklin, Tenn.); The Championship Course at UNM (Albuquerque, N.M.); University of Michigan Golf Course (Ann Arbor, Mich.); Karsten Creek Golf Club (Stillwater, Okla.) and Seminole Legacy Golf Club (Tallahassee, Fla.).
