
Men’s Golf Finishes Play at Valspar Collegiate Classic

Junior Marcus Wochner ties for 22nd at 2-under 211 to lead Cougars; Team finishes 12th in elite field
PALM CITY, Fla. – The University of Houston Men's Golf program finished play at the Valspar Collegiate Classic at The Floridian Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougars posted a team score of 291 during the final 18 holes to finish 12th in the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 856. The event annually features many of the nation's top collegiate programs with this year's field, including 10 of the country's Top 35 with four of the Top 10 and seven of the Top 25.
Junior transfer Marcus Wochner posted a score of 2-under 211 to lead the Cougars and tied for 22nd overall on the 6,921-yard, par-71 course.
Playing as an individual, redshirt freshman Jacob Borow posted the team's low round of the day with a 3-under 68, thanks to a team-high six birdies on the day.
Starting off No. 18, Borow drained his first birdie of the Final Round on No. 1 and moved to 2-under with another birdie on the par-4 sixth hole.
Despite a double-bogey 6 on the par-4 ninth hole, the Lake Jackson, Texas, native returned to red numbers with a birdie on No. 10 and followed that with another birdie on No. 13. Rallying from his final bogey, Borow sank back-to-back birdies on Nos. 16-17 to close the tournament and tie for 42nd at 216.
Senior Alexander Frances tie for 46th at 217, while seniors Braxton Watkins and Andrew Gibson and junior Austyn Reily tied for 51st at 218.
No. 10 Pepperdine captured the team championship at 818 to finish 14 shots ahead of No. 26 Florida. No. 20 Wake Forest (837), Duke (838) and No. 6 Arizona State (839) rounded out the Top-Five leaders with No. 6 Arizona State (839), No. 33 Ohio State (840), No. 4 North Carolina (841), No. 32 South Florida (847), No. 5 Texas Tech (847) and No. 21 Clemson (851) completed the Top 10.
Pepperdine's Dylan Menante earned medalist honors at 14-under 199 to finish one stroke ahead of Florida State's Frederik Kjettrup. Texas Tech's Ludvig Aberg and Clemson's Jacob Bridgeman tied for third at 202.

Following the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, the Cougars will tee off at the Aggie Invitational at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan, Texas, on April 9-10.
From there, the Cougars will send individual student-athletes to compete at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic. That tournament will be held at Walden Golf Club on Lake Conroe in Montgomery, Texas, on April 11-12.
The Cougars then take their first step in the postseason when they tee off at the American Athletic Conference Championships on April 22-24 at Southern Hills Plantation in Brooksville, Fla. The winner of the league' annual postseason tournament receives an automatic bid to NCAA Regional play, set for May 16-18 at one of six sites across the nation.
