Cougars Pummel Panthers, 13-1

The Cougars (17-8) overcome a one-run deficit with three runs in the fourth inning. Designated hitter Anthony Tulimero collected his first home run of the season, putting Houston up for good.
Houston improved to 7-0 during the midweek, outscoring opponents 66-22. The victory was Houston's sixth in its last seven games and marked the eighth time this season the Cougars have scored double-digit runs.
Houston exploded for eight runs in the eighth inning highlighted by Ryan Hernandez's fourth homer of the season which traveled 416 feet. The Cougars produced eight hits in the frame.
Samuel Benjamin registered a two-run double and Dylan Post drove in another with an RBI-triple. Ian McMillan provided the final damage courtesy of an RBI-single. McMillan was one of three Cougars with three hits, joining Malachi Lott and Hernandez.
Prairie View (9-15) scored its single run in the second inning. Seven Houston pitchers combined to limit the Panthers to seven hits and one run. Taylor Parrett (1-0) threw 2.0 scoreless innings, striking out four batters while allowing two hits.
Houston pitching limited Prairie View to 2-for-17 (.118) with runners aboard and 2-for-11 (.182) with runners in scoring position. Meanwhile, the Cougars batted 12-for-24 (.500) with runners and .556 (10-for-18) with runners in scoring position.
UP NEXT
The Cougars open their ninth season of American Athletic Conference plays on Friday against Wichita State. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. from Sanders Field at Schroeder Park. Saturday's middle game is at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday's finale is at 1 o'clock.
Friday is "713 Night" at the ballpark where fans can buy $7 tickets at the box office and take advantage of $7.13 Tex-Mex Nachos at the concession stand.
