Series Clinched in Finale

The series win, coming on the final weekend of non-conference play, was the Cougars' fourth in the last five weekends. After producing just four hits in Saturday's loss, Houston totaled 11 Sunday, marking the seventh double-digit tally in the last eight contests.
All nine Houston (16-8) starters notched at least one hit. Offensively, the Cougars struck out a season-low two times (previous: 3, at Sam Houston) against Western Carolina (11-13) pitching. The victory was Houston's 11th at home, matching its entire 2021 total.
Making his fourth start, LaCalameto (2-0) turned in another strong performance. The junior southpaw scattered six hits, allowing one run across a career-high 6.0 innings while lowering his ERA to 3.22. The Cincinnati native fanned seven batters and held the Catamounts to 2-for-10 (.200) with runners aboard.
Hernandez delivered a first-inning RBI-double and clubbed his second home run of the week courtesy of a 367-foot solo shot in the sixth. It marked his first multi-RBI performance since driving in five runs on March 6 against Incarnate Word.
The Cougars added insurance courtesy of a three-run eighth inning. All three runs came with two away as Zach Arnold (double) raced home on a wild pitch and Malachi Lott drove in a pair on an infield single.
Cougar closer Ben Sears locked up his fifth save, tossing the final 3.0 frames while holding the Catamounts to one hit and no runs. The right-hander fanned three without a walk and now owns a 0.39 ERA in 23.1 innings.
Western Carolina starter Gavin Mortenson (1-3) allowed nine hits and three runs across 7.0 innings while striking out two without a walk. The Catamounts' lone run came in the second inning courtesy of a Brandon Butterworth RBI-double.
